I figured the best way to get caught up with my e-mails and my latest happenings would be a Q & A of the FAQ’s. Interpretation for those who live outside of cyberspace, a Question and Answer of the most Frequently Asked Questions.
“What’s going on with the movie?”
My mother calls me and asks this question almost daily. Sometimes it’s the first thing out of her mouth, other times, she gives it a few minutes, like how are you feeling today…how are the kids…what’s going on with the movie. Uggh. I’ve reached the point where I have only one answer, “same thing going on as yesterday.” Which is the truth. The script has been in revisions for the last year or so. The original script for Nappily was written by Tina Gordon Chism who did Drumline and a rewrite for Taxi with Queen Latifah. Once the director, Patricia Cardosa(Real Women have Curves), was hired the script went through another revision. For the last few months it’s been in the hands of Lisa Loomer who adapted Girl Interrupted . The new version is getting kudos and should be in the hands of the capable filmmakers any day now. Side note:Halle says she isn’t cutting her hair until this movie gets made. So as you can see, her hair just keeps getting longer and longer, all natural, all glowing. I have a feeling she’s going to have hair like Rapunzel before it’s through.
“Who’s playing Clint?”
This is the other million dollar question. Clint is the kind of character who is loved for being humble, honest, and good looking. In Nappily Ever After, he’s considered the ultimate trophy husband. Every woman’s perfect mate. But as soon as we fall in love with him, he makes a devastating choice that most women believe is shallow and insulting to the burgeoning self-awareness journey that Venus is trying to undertake.
It’s going to have to be a sexy leading man who doesn’t mind being hated. I don’t know of any, do you? Feel free to send suggestions. I will forward them to the appropriate parties.
“Have you met Halle?”
I get this question at all my author signings and appearances. It’s risky but I smile and gracefully say, “not yet”. If the answer is “yes,” the next hour will be focused on girlfriend and not me. Not to say I’m an ego maniac, but seriously, I’m trying to move a few books out the door before my publisher decides I should only “tour in my hometown”, which is publisher-speak for, “you’re through!”
When’s the next book coming out?
When the last one is through selling. Oh my goodness, what if it took seven years. Be careful what you wish for ladies and gentlemen. You just might get it. No, I’m working on the editing for Nappily Married, where Venus ventures into real womanhood, marriage is the holy grail she’s been after all her life. Now we get to see her struggle through the maze of being a wife and mother. It’s not heaven like she thought it would be, in fact it’s a helluva lot of work.
I hope I have the opportunity to see a few of you in New York next month, June 3 rd. I will be signing my just celebrated released of Would I Lie to You in paperback. I will be signing at Hue-Man Bookstore in Harlem. I have heard so much about this new store and it’s wonderful owners, managers and staff, that I’m excited to see for myself. If you know anyone in the NYC area, send them an invite, and tell them I don’t bite! Well, I might. If one more person walks up to me and asks, “What you know about Nappy?” I know enough, trust me. Roots don’t lie.
Peace and big hugs,
Trisha R. Thomas
